Mom guilt. Perfectionism. That never-ending to-do list. Sound familiar?
As moms, we carry so much—physically, emotionally, and mentally. But sometimes, the heaviest burdens are the ones we place on ourselves. What if this year, you gave yourself permission to let go of the things that no longer serve you?
This isn’t about lowering your standards or doing less for your family. It’s about freeing yourself to focus on what truly matters: joy, connection, and your own well-being. Here are five things I believe every mum should let go of this year.
1. The Pressure to Be Perfect
Spoiler alert: There’s no such thing as the perfect mom. And yet, so many of us hold ourselves to impossible standards. Perfect meals, spotless homes, perfectly behaved kids—it’s exhausting.
Here’s the truth: your kids don’t need perfection. They need love, patience (when you can muster it), and your authentic self. Let go of the pressure to get everything “just right” and embrace the messy, beautiful reality of motherhood instead.
2. Mom Guilt
Oh, mom guilt. The little voice that whispers, “You’re not doing enough.” Whether it’s working too much or not working at all, taking time for yourself, or missing a school event, it always finds a way in.
This year, let’s silence that voice. Remind yourself that you’re doing your best—and that’s enough. Your love for your family shows in a million ways, big and small, every single day.
3. Comparison
It’s so easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other moms. The Pinterest mom with the colour-coded pantry. The Instagram mom who seems to have it all together.
But here’s what you don’t see: their struggles, their doubts, their messy moments. Social media is a highlight reel, not real life. Focus on your own journey, your own wins, and the things that make your family uniquely yours.
4. Doing It All Yourself
You don’t have to do everything, even if it feels like you should. This year, let’s embrace the art of asking for help. Whether it’s from your partner, a family member, or even the kids, sharing the load doesn’t make you weak—it makes you human.
And when help isn’t available, give yourself grace. Some things can wait, and that’s okay.
5. The Need to Please Everyone
It’s impossible to make everyone happy all the time. Trying to do so will only leave you exhausted and frustrated.
Instead, focus on what’s best for your family—and for you. Say “no” when you need to, set boundaries, and let go of the fear of disappointing others. You’re not responsible for everyone’s happiness, and that’s a good thing.
A New Kind of Freedom
Letting go isn’t always easy, but it’s so worth it. Imagine the freedom of no longer carrying these invisible weights. Imagine waking up each day feeling lighter, more present, and more at peace with yourself.
This year, let’s choose progress over perfection, love over guilt, and joy over comparison. You’re already an amazing mum, just as you are.
