When I got my first home, and it was time to decorate it however I saw fit – I wanted it to look good. But after looking through Pinterest for hours on end, I was completely convinced that all the luxury bedrooms I saw on there cost an absolute fortune.

As someone who lives and breathes budgeting – believe me when I say hell will freeze over before I spend a sizeable amount of cash anything I don’t have to. To have a luxurious look – you don’t have to bankrupt yourself.

So, here’s some of the best tips I’ve learned when styling my own bedroom.

1.Upgrade Your Bedding (It’s Like a Cheat Code for Fancy Vibes)

A beautiful bed in a luxurious bedroom, with decorative soft pillows and layered duvets

You know that feeling when you collapse onto a hotel bed, and it basically hugs you? Yeah, you can have that at home—no overpriced room service required.

  • Step 1: Get yourself a duvet insert and a duvet cover. Why? Because stuffing a duvet insert into a cover makes your bed look fluffy, cloud-like, and unnecessarily fancy.

  • Step 2: Layer ALL the pillows. Two standard pillows? Cute, but we can do better. Stack ‘em. Add shams. Maybe throw in a decorative pillow or two (even if your partner rolls their eyes every time you move them before bed). These budget-friendly velvet pillow covers are actually insane, if you don’t trust the price tag – look at the rave reviews.

  • Step 3: Stick to neutral or rich tones—white, beige, deep greens, moody blues. Instant boutique hotel energy.

  • 💡 Bonus hack: If you can’t afford Egyptian cotton sheets (I’m not buying them either!), look for brushed microfiber—soft as a cloud, without the sky-high price tag.

    2. Mood Lighting = Instant Fancy

Nothing ruins the mood luxury aesthetic faster than a blinding overhead light. If your bedroom lighting makes you feel like you’re being interrogated by the FBI, it’s definitely time for an upgrade.

    • Swap your bulbs for warm-toned LEDs—it’s like giving your room a free Instagram filter.
    • Fairy lights, lamps, and dimmable bulbs instantly make your space feel softer, more romantic, and less “dentist’s waiting room.”
    • Try motion sensor under-bed lighting if you want to feel like a high-tech millionaire when you step out of bed at night.

💡 Bonus hack: If you have bedside lamps, swap out the standard shades for something textured—linen, pleated, or gold-lined interiors make a surprising difference.

    3. A Statement Rug = Instant Chic

statement rug is often the difference between “this room is fine” and “this room belongs in a magazine.”

    • Go big. A tiny rug floating awkwardly in the middle of your floor? No thanks. Aim for a rug that extends beyond your bed and anchors the space.
    • Layer it up. If you already have carpet, don’t be afraid to layer a smaller rug on top—think Moroccan, shaggy, or geometric patterns for that high-end feel.
    • Pick the right material. A plush, soft rug instantly adds warmth and coziness to your room. Bonus: it also feels amazing underfoot when you first wake up. (This budget-friendly area rug is an absolute game-changer!)

💡 Bonus hack: Don’t want to spend a fortune? Look for rugs on sale in the off-season or check out secondhand finds.

Bonus points if you can thrift one and wash it like the rug guy on TikTok – you’re living my dream and I want to hear all about it.

    4. Reflect Elegance with a Statement Mirror

A statement mirror doesn’t just make your bedroom look bigger—it adds instant elegance and light. The right mirror can make even the smallest bedroom feel grand.

    • Go oversized. A big mirror leaning against the wall? Total luxury. It adds depth and reflects light, making your space feel twice as large.
    • Choose an eye-catching frame. Whether it’s ornate gold, matte black, or rustic wood, a unique frame makes your mirror double as decor.
    • Hang it in the right spot. Over the dresser? Above the bed? Leaning casually against a wall like you’re effortlessly chic? You decide.

💡 Bonus hack: If a full-length mirror isn’t in your budget, try a set of smaller decorative mirrors—they give the same elegant effect without the high price tag.

    5. Make Your Room Smell Like a Hotel (Because Fancy Smells = Fancy Feels)

Ever notice how expensive places always smell expensive? You walk into a spa, and suddenly you’re like, ah yes, I too, am rich and carefree.

    • Get a reed diffuser or essential oil diffuser—jasmine, sandalwood, and vanilla are all luxurious scents.
    • Layer your scents—use a linen spray on your sheets and a candle on your nightstand (I have this gorgeous candle on my bedside table, and let me tell you – I do not mind smelling this thing all day and all night).
    • For the ultimate rich-person move: Stick a dryer sheet in your pillowcase. Your bed will smell like freshly washed everything every night.

💡 Bonus hack: Hotel lobbies often use white tea & thyme scents—now you know what to look for!
